10 Day Danakil & Omo Valley Adventure

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, meet your guide and begin exploring Ethiopia’s bustling capital. Visit Mount Entoto for panoramic views, St. George’s Cathedral, and the National Museum, home to the fossil “Lucy.” Stroll through Merkato, Africa’s largest open-air market, and enjoy Ethiopian coffee at a local café.

Fly from Addis Ababa to Semera, then drive through the Afar region toward Hamed Ela. Stop at Lake Afdera, a sparkling salt lake where you can enjoy a refreshing swim. Continue to Hamed Ela, your base for exploring the Danakil Depression. In the evening, visit Lake Asale for a mesmerizing sunset over the salt flats.

Overnight: Open-air camping at Hamed Ela.

After breakfast, journey to Dallol, one of the most colorful and hottest places on Earth. Explore its surreal sulfur pools and mineral formations. Witness camel caravans transporting salt blocks, an ancient Afar tradition. In the afternoon, drive to Erta Ale base camp and begin your evening trek to see the molten lava lake glowing under the night sky.

Overnight: Camping near Erta Ale Volcano.

Enjoy sunrise at the Erta Ale crater before breakfast. Drive back to Afdera, then continue to Semera Airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Relax and unwind at your hotel after the intense desert journey.

Fly to Jinka, then drive through the scenic Omo Valley to Turmi. Visit the Hamer tribe, famous for body scarification, intricate hairstyles, and the “bull-jumping” ceremony symbolizing adulthood. En route, visit the Banna tribe.

Overnight: Emerald Lodge, Turmi.

Drive to Murele to visit the Karo people, masters of artistic body painting. Continue to meet the Nyangatom tribe living along the Omo River, then return to Jinka via Banna and Ari villages.

Overnight: Jinka Resort.

Early morning drive to the Mursi tribe, known for the lip plates worn by women as a sign of beauty and identity. Continue to Omorate to meet the Dassanech tribe, crossing the Omo River by local canoe to explore their village and traditions. Return to Jinka in the evening.

Overnight: Emerald Lodge, Jinka.

Depart for Arba Minch, stopping at Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its terraced landscapes and “waka” wooden totems. Upon arrival, visit the Dorze village, known for beehive-shaped huts, weaving, and traditional coffee ceremonies.

Overnight: Paradise Lodge or similar, Arba Minch.

In the morning, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Chamo, spotting hippos and crocodiles. Afterward, transfer to Arba Minch Airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. In the evening, experience a traditional dinner with live music and cultural dance at a famous restaurant.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning or optional visits to local markets for souvenirs. Transfer to Bole International Airport for your onward flight—taking unforgettable memories of Ethiopia’s natural wonders and diverse cultures.
