Join us for 12 days to experience the proper rhythm of South Africa. We are taking you straight to the heart of the country’s two most iconic cities for a trip that blends deep culture with incredible scenery. You will start in the high-energy hub of Johannesburg—walking the famous streets of Soweto, tasting authentic Pan-African food in Yeoville, and seeing the creative rise of the Maboneng precinct. Then, we switch gears for the coastal beauty of Cape Town, where you will stand on top of Table Mountain and walk through the history of Robben Island.
We designed this schedule to be flexible. We have curated the big moments to connect you with the local history and people, but we also left space for you to breathe. Our dates align with the local Pride festivities, so you can join the celebration if you like or use that time to relax and recharge. Whether you are here for the history, the food, or the views, prepare for a journey that will stay with you long after you fly home.
We’ll pick you up and head to the hotel to settle in. Tonight, we kick things off with a relaxed Welcome Dinner to meet the crew and shake off the jet lag.
Today is our first big event. For those celebrating, we are heading to The Queer Met—a stylish, high-energy social event celebrating diversity. If that’s not your scene, we have arranged a luxury spa day or a shopping excursion at Sandton City.
We take a morning flight to Cape Town. We’ll check in and head straight for the V&A Waterfront. The vibe is relaxed today: browsing the markets followed by a Sunset Champagne Cruise on the Atlantic.
We’re hitting the icons. A cable car ride up Table Mountain for the views, followed by the ferry to Robben Island for a poignant tour of the historic prison where Mandela was held.
Choose your scenery. Take a drive down to the dramatic cliffs of Cape Point and see the penguins, or head into the Winelands to taste some of South Africa’s best vintages at a local vineyard.
We fly back to Johannesburg today. To keep the energy up, we’ll head straight into a Taste of Africa Tour in Yeoville for dinner—a gritty, authentic dive into Pan-African cuisine.
We head out of the city to the Cradle of Humankind to see the fossil history of our ancestors. In the late afternoon, we visit the Lesedi Cultural Village for a tour of traditional homesteads, drumming, and a Boma dinner.
Early start. We’re heading out of the city for a full-day game drive to spot the Big 5. We’ll be back in Joburg by evening.
Option A is Joburg Pride—we’ll join the parade and festival for a massive celebration. Option B is for those who want a quieter day: a luxury spa treatment or high-end shopping in Rosebank.
We’re spending Sunday in Soweto to catch the best vibe. You can start with a spirited local church service (optional), followed by the history tour at Regina Mundi Hall and the Hector Pieterson Museum. We wrap up with a massive lunch at Chaf Pozi near the Orlando Towers.
Our final full day is a culture dive. We’ll explore the “Jozi Triangle” (Newtown and Braamfontein) to see the street art and history, then head to Maboneng for a hands-on cooking class to make (and eat) our farewell feast.

Yes, thousands of tourists visit safely every day, but like any major destination, you need to be street-smart. We use private transport and trusted local guides to keep you in secure areas like Sandton and the V&A Waterfront. The main rules are simple: don’t walk alone at night, keep your valuables tucked away, and always follow your guide’s advice.
If you hold a US passport, you do not need a visa for tourism stays under 90 days. However, immigration is strict about passport conditions: your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after your departure date
For travelers coming directly from the USA or Europe, no specific vaccinations are legally required for entry. The best news is that Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Pilanesberg National Park are all Malaria-Free zones, so you do not need to take malaria medication for this specific itinerary.
South Africa has one of the most progressive constitutions in the world, and same-sex marriage is legal. Johannesburg and Cape Town are LGBTQ+ friendly cities with vibrant queer communities, and since our trip aligns with Johannesburg Pride, it is a great time to visit. While the urban hubs are welcoming, we always recommend using standard discretion when moving through more rural areas.
Yes, the tap water in Johannesburg and Cape Town is high quality and generally safe to drink. If you have a sensitive stomach or just prefer the taste, bottled water is very cheap and readily available at every stop we make.
“Load Shedding” is the local term for scheduled rolling power outages, which are a reality of daily life in South Africa. Don’t worry, though; the hotels we have selected are equipped with backup generators or solar power to ensure the lights, Wi-Fi, and essential services stay on during these periods.
South Africa uses a unique plug type (Type M) with three large round pins, which is different from the standard UK or European plugs. We strongly recommend buying a specific “South Africa” adapter on Amazon before you leave, as generic universal travel adapters often do not include the Type M because the pins are too large to fit.
The local currency is the South African Rand (ZAR). You won’t need to carry large amounts of cash because Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere, including malls and restaurants. Tipping is standard practice here; a good rule of thumb is to leave 10% to 15% for waiters and Uber drivers, and keeping small change handy for hotel porters is always appreciated.
You are arriving during the Southern Hemisphere’s spring, so the weather is generally lovely but variable. Johannesburg is usually warm during the day with the possibility of late afternoon thunderstorms, while Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate that can be sunny one minute and windy the next. We suggest packing layers so you are comfortable in the warm afternoons and the cooler evenings.
